Project
Planning and Optimization Techniques to Support the Design of Wind Plants” involves the development of methodologies and techniques for the optimization, monitoring and structural control of wind turbine support towers and has the following objectives:

  • the definition of specific structural design procedures for wind turbine support towers;
  • the definition of methodologies and techniques for structural control;
  • the technology transfer of the proposed methodologies to companies operating in the wind turbine industry;
  • the use of procedures for the planning of wind plants in high-risk areas.

Financial Resources
The project was funded by the NOP Research and Innovation 2014-2020 under the action Innovative Industrial Doctorates, cycle XXXII - Academic Year 2016-2017.
The University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”, which received 83.569,84 euro in funding, has instituted a 3-year doctoral scholarship in Environment, Design and Innovation at the Department of Civil Engineering, Design, Building and Environment for the implementation of this initiative.

Impact
The project falls within the thematic areas “Energy” and “Smart Factory”, identified by the National Smart Specialization Strategy, and includes a 12-month period with Seapower, a company based in Naples active in the sector of micro and mini wind turbines, and a 6-month period at the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark.
