Project

Concentratore Vacuum ad alta efficienza(high efficiency vacuum concentrator) aims to develop a device for the extraction of water from emulsions, solutions and granulates by means of a distillation/concentration process in a high vacuum reactor, with reduced energy absorption. This device can be effectively applied in the following sectors:

  • drying of organic granulates (e.g. diastatic malt for beer production);
  • dehydration of emulsified mineral oils (e.g. spent cutting oils);
  • concentration and reduction of landfill leachate;
  • seawater desalination;
  • separation of solvents from washing emulsions (e.g. paint production and industrial washing of mechanical parts);
  • concentration and reduction in weight and volume of civil and industrial sewage sludge.

The final objective of the project is to reach a level of technological maturity, i.e. a complete and qualified technological system, also through the production of a field test device (evolved prototype) in order to perform a series of functional tests directly in a real operating environment not only to assess the functionality, but also to receive feedback from the user companies (Peroni and Calcidrata), so as to have all the preparatory steps for the subsequent industrial production and market launch.

Financial Resources
This project has received 1,212,357.93 euros in funding from the NOP Research and Innovation 2014-2020, under Action “Thematic Projects - Key Enabling Technologies – KETs” through the Fund of Funds for Research and Innovation managed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and established to increase investment in research and development. The EU resources available to the Fund of Funds are invested through one or more financial intermediaries and may take the form of loans, equity or quasi-equity, or equivalent instruments.

Impact on the Territory
The project falls within the “Agrifood” specialization area and involves the creation of new products or services along with the improvement of existing production/organization processes. The beneficiary of the funding is Blue Shark Srl, a company with registered office in Cagliari and operational headquarters in the industrial area of Macchiareddu whose main activity is the construction of buildings and civil engineering works. It is estimated that the economic effects of the project, already in the first year of operation, could allow for an EBITDA between 35-45%, much higher than the average for the metallic carpentry and petrochemical plant maintenance sectors, which today are the company’s core business. Confirming the development potential, it is highlighted that the markets onto which the company’s product could be sold, in addition to that of malt and other grain drying, are sludge reduction and dehydration of oils that cannot be recycled.
