Project
Food-System Innovation Model and Rural-Cultural Landscape Heritage Enhancement by Creative Agroindustry Digital Design & Food Policies” focuses on the study and application of strategies, models and tools for the development of innovative solutions to improve the competitiveness of agrifood companies by operating within a food-performance framework that promotes the ethno-historical-cultural heritage on an urban and regional scale while increasing awareness among citizens/consumers. Promoting the leading sectors of the local economy, which with their products build on the assets of the local community, leads to the creation of technology cross-fertilization, with benefits for the innovation of agrifood production cycles and product promotion, in the context of sustainable and responsible development. The study explores the development of solutions for the use of a management system in the agrifood business cycle of a leading bakery company based in Matera, in order to implement a model of inter-institutional governance involving businesses, PA and community.

Financial Resources
The project was funded by the NOP Research and Innovation 2014-2020 under the Action Innovative Industrial Doctorates, Cycle XXXIII – Academic Year 2017-2018. For the implementation of this initiative, the University of Basilicata received a budget of 85.743,06 euro and established a three-year doctoral scholarship in “Cities and Landscapes: Architecture, Archaeology, Cultural Heritage, History and Resources” within the Department of European and Mediterranean Cultures (DiCEM).

Impact
The project falls within the “National Priority Development: Tourism, Cultural Heritage and Creativity Industry” technology trajectory identified in the National Smart Specialization Strategy and is expected to bring multiple benefits to policies supporting the development of relationships between culture and creativity. The project involves the specialized training of a person in the identification of strategies, models and tools to support the food system as an interaction of new production systems, in the relationships between city, environment and landscape in the era of Research & Development 4.0, with transversal skills such as analytical, planning, financial and managerial skills. The professional will support public administrations in the development and implementation of food policies including strategies to improve the urban quality of suburbs through the construction of new food geographies, by combining the community dimension with the agricultural landscape heritage and natural resources, creating synergies between the priority axes of Bioeconomy and the cultural and creative industry.
The project includes a 6-month placement at Dileo Pietro SpA, a company operating in the agrifood sector and based in Matera, and a 6-month placement at the University of Rennes 2, France.
